Cement Industry Vision Statement
Concrete is one of the oldest man-made building materials in the world, which is fitting given the material's lasting value and utility. Its durability and versatility is a cornerstone of the sustainable attributes that cement-based materials offer for environmentally responsible construction applications.
Members of the portland cement industry appreciate that today’s choices affect future generations. We see sustainability not just as a principle, but as a key element in the way we do business. We recognize that adopting the values of sustainable development is essential, and while not simple, these efforts benefit local, national and global climate and environmental considerations.
PCA member companies are tackling this challenge on multiple fronts, including:
- improving the manufacturing process for cement by reducing emissions and energy use
- enhancing the material design for a reduced environmental footprint
- educating designers and builders on how to derive the most benefit from cement-based materials
The industry is committed to this effort and will continue to promote, support and develop efforts to ensure sustainability remains a key factor in our operations.
