Masonry Designers' Guide, Fifth Edition
Item Code: LT305
Date: 2007
The Masonry Society

Description: This book is one of the most popular design and teaching resources related to masonry because it provides comprehensive coverage, extensive code references, and numerous practical examples. The major design chapters have been reformatted and rewritten to more closely follow design methods used for masonry, and to add new information on how to use the Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) with model building codes.

The fifth edition complies with the 2005 code and specification documents written by MSJC and provides a comparison of the differences with the International Building Code (IBC 2006). Examples are solved using the allowable stress design procedures and the newer strength design procedures of the code. Published by The Masonry Society.

New and updated information in this publication (MDG5) includes:

  • Using the MSJC with model building codes, including a comprehensive review of differences between the 2005 MSJC and the IBC 2006
  • Chapters on allowable stress design, strength design, and prestressed masonry design to replace previous chapters that addressed flexure, axial load, and shear
  • Masonry quality assurance/quality control
  • Autoclaved aerated concrete masonry and thin-bed mortar
  • Inspection and quality assurance provisions for masonry

Simple examples have been added to the main design chapters to demonstrate how to apply the design provisions. The building design examples in MDG5 have also been substantially revised and updated to reflect the changes in the code and specification, and to analyze the typical masonry structure.
