Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures and Commentaries (TMS 402/ACI 530/ASCE 5, TMS 602/ACI 530.1/ASCE 6)
Item Code: LT313
Date: 2008
Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC)

Description: This 2008 edition of the national masonry design code and minimum specification covers the design and construction of masonry structures and is accompanied by commentaries. Design methods include empirical design, prescriptive method, and strength design. It is written in such form that it may be adopted by reference in a legally adopted building code. Among the subjects covered are: definitions, contract documents, quality assurance, materials, placement of embedded items, analysis and design, strength and serviceability, flexural and axial loads, shear, details and development of reinforcement, walls, columns, pilasters, beams and lintels, seismic design requirements, glass unit masonry, veneers, and autoclaved aerated concrete masonry. The quality, inspection, testing, and placement of materials used in construction are covered by reference to TMS 602/ACI 530.1/ASCE 6 specification and other standards.

Among the numerous changes and enhancements to this edition are provisions on self-consolidating grout, reformatted and clearer seismic design requirements, revised anchor bolt capacity equations, and defined inspection frequencies of key aspects of masonry construction. The new edition features “bleed tabs”, revision bars, deletion arrows, and movement boxes so that users of the 2005 MJSC will be able to quickly identify sections that have been substantively modified.

Jointly published by The Masonry Society, the American Concrete Institute, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. (TMS 402-08/ACI 530-08/ASCE 5-08 and TMS 602-08/ACI 530.1-08/ASCE 6-08) 2008.
