Description: This publication examines the potential impact of the 2000 edition of the International Building Code (IBC) on seismic design across the United States. A general comparison is made between the seismic design forces and detailing requirements of the 2000 IBC and previous codes, standards, and resource documents. For comparison purposes, several locations are chosen in the area of influence of each existing model code. The impact of the provisions of the 2000 IBC is examined with particular reference to reinforced concrete structures. By S.K. Ghosh, Structures and Codes Institute, Northbrook, IL
