Description: Reprint of an article from Construction magazine that describes the recycling of 6.5 miles of county roadway in South Carolina. The process known as “full-depth reclamation using cement” utilizes much of the existing asphalt pavement and old aggregate base to form a new, stronger base. The process saves time and money and is environmentally appealing. For this project the entire reclamation process – milling, mixing, adding portland cement, and applying a surface treatment with a 2-inch overlay - amounted to $7.43 per square yard, a third of the cost of full-depth asphalt replacement.
