Description: This project provides in-depth information on energy savings in mid-rise buildings due to additional thermal mass and for exceeding building envelope thermal performance requirements. We also show how to model the thermal properties of concrete to obtain LEED-NC v2.1 points. The LEED Energy & Atmosphere (EA) Credit 1 on optimizing energy performance provides up to 10 points for energy savings beyond ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-1999. A total of 26 points is required for a basic level of certification. Obtaining points for the EA Credit 1 requires modeling with energy simulation software, and modeling thermal mass effects requires software that models yearly energy use on an hourly basis. This report is also found on DVD021.
