EWEEK Expo at IIT-Rice Campus
Chicgoland,
DuPage Area Engineer’s Week Committee has scheduled an Open
House for Saturday, February 21, 2009 [11:00 A.M.
–3:30 P.M.] at Illinois Institute of Technology’s Daniel
F. and Ada L. Rice Campus at 201 East Loop Road, Wheaton. This program
includes activities that are free and open to the public. Students
and adults are invited to explore engineering with members of the
Chicagoland structural engineering community. This event promises
to be something very special as this year marks the 25th anniversary
of the program.
The
Expo will feature interactive displays and presentations that are
fun and educational, designed to enhance children’s interest
in math, science, and of course engineering.
The DuPage Program, now on its 25th year, is a joint effort among
professional engineering and scientific societies, area national
laboratories, businesses, educational institutions and community
organizations. Displays and presentations this year will focus on
Sustainable Engineering.Structural engineers Bob Johnson, Carol
Drucker, Terrance Lindsay, Jeremy Kirk, Lawrence Novak and others
are expected to once again introduce budding young engineers to
standing room only at the SEAOI (Structural Engineers Association
of Illinois - www.seaoi.org)
exhibit.
Buildings to Shake- Rattle and Roll!
Larry
Novak (Structural Engineer with the Portland Cement Association
and LEED® accredited professional on sustainable design) will
give demonstrations of building materials, structural principles,
how water can stop building motions, and new for this year an earthquake
"shake table” for LEGO TM Block buildings which allow
the kids to build and test their own building designs to destruction.
Expect an introduction to the new generation of high-rise structures
(Trump Tower - Chicago, Burj Dubai – UAE (soon to become the
world’s tallest building), and other super tall buildings
at the IIT-RICE CAMPUS EWEEK OPEN HOUSE. In priors years Novak’s
lectures have attracted standing room only crowds so be sure not
to miss this exciting opportunity to learn how engineers design
tall buildings and other structures.
This ‘EXPO’ is the extraordinary opportunity to introduce
students of all ages and their parents to the current state of technology
and advances being made throughout engineering industry.
