Purpose
To develop consensus within the masonry industry on codes and standards issues by:
- Forging consensus for the masonry industry on codes and standards issues
- Influencing and coordinating codes and standards which affect masonry
- Monitoring codes and standards, which influence masonry
- Exchanging information with state and regional organizations
- Identifying needed research related to masonry codes and standards
Membership
There are two types of membership in MACS, organizational and corresponding. Any association or organization which represents producers, manufacturers, distributors, contractors or laborers of masonry, having a legitimate interest in the development and maintenance of the provisions of the international Building Code and other codes and standards which influence masonry may be elected to organizational membership. Any individual or as a designated representative of a firm or organization engaged in the manufacture, distribution, sale, or construction of masonry, having a legitimate interest in the development and maintenance of the provisions of the International Building code and other codes and standards which influence masonry may be elected to corresponding membership.
Meetings
MACS generally meets twice a year. Meetings are scheduled in a fashion to allow the best opportunities to consider code change proposals of the national model building codes, both being on an eighteen month cycle. Subcommittees and task groups conduct business via email and conference calls between general meetings of the membership.
