State Codes

Building Code: Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) is based on 2006 IBC with state amendments. Local jurisdictions may not amend the code. The USBC can be accessed at: http:www.dhcd.virginia.gov/StateBuildingCodesandRegulations/Virginia_Uniform_Statewide_Building_Code.htm
Energy Code: Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code is based on 2006 IECC with state amendments. Local jurisdictions may not amend the code.
Fire Prevention: Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code (SFPC) is based on the 2006 IFC with state amendments. Local jurisdictions may amend the code to make it more stringent provided such regulations do not affect the manner of construction or materials to be used in the erection, alteration, repair, or use of a building or structure, as provided in the USBC, including the voluntary installation of smoke alarms and regulation and inspection thereof in commercial buildings where such smoke alarms are not required under the provisions of the SFPC. Manufacturers include cement, ready-mixed concrete, and concrete products. Aggregate, steel reinforcement, admixtures and ancillary products such as ties, anchors, and forms are not included in these statistics.
Installers are limited to masonry and concrete contracting firms. Steelworkers that set reinforcement, carpenters that erect formwork, and other related trades are not included.
Direct employment is for those establishments described as manufacturers and installers. Indirect employment includes professionals and trades and services personnel required to support direct employees (retailers, school teachers, doctors, etc.).
Annual revenues are approximations of those generated from sales taxes, income taxes, real estate taxes, etc. applicable in the specific state.
