Concrete Home With A View
The Thomas residence is located off Bay Ridge Road at 1195 Mace Road, Annapolis, MD 21403 in the Annapolis Cove development.
This all concrete, waterfront home in Annapolis Cove is more than just a house. According to one developer, it may be a sign of the future. Kimball Dhillon of Dhillon Construction thinks that with all the benefits of a concrete home, this may be the solution to ordinary construction woes. This 7,000 sq. ft. home was the first he had ever done. Dhillon welcomed the challenge. "The home is ecologically friendly and it's the most solid house I've built," Dhillon said.
The first floor of this home utilizes an insulated concrete foam deck, which easily accepts the use of radiant floor heating. The first floor alone contains 60 cubic yards of concrete. The driveway, front porch and back patio is made of colored and stamped concrete and has the appearance of natural stone.

Dunkirk
ICF was the choice for this home because of the energy efficiency, strength,
resistance to insect infestation and fire. This is a 4,300 square foot
home, which is heated and cooled for $91 per month. This house has
ICF walls for all three levels (two above and one below grade).

Hollywood
This house is also two stories with a full basement underneath. The owner

LaPlata
| Nation's Capital Showcase Concrete Home at Washington Square |
 |
On Washington Avenue in LaPlata, MD, developer Bruce Davis, Inc. is constructing 81 single-family attached concrete homes built using insulating concrete forms (ICFs). |
The model home for the project has been designated "The Nation's Capital Showcase Concrete Home" and is being sponsored and promoted by the Maryland and Virginia Ready Mixed Concrete Promotion Councils and the Northeast Cement Shippers Association (NECSA). The Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) has designated Washington Square as one of only seven national demonstration sites.
Each home will be 1,000-1,500 square feet and will include one bedroom, a den, cathedral ceilings and skylights.
Insulating concrete forms were utilized for the exterior wall construction, giving these residences exceptional energy efficiency, soundproofing and disaster resistance. ICF walls are also used for the party walls between attached units.
The homes feature exposed aggregate concrete exterior flatwork, fiber-cement based exterior siding and brick accents. The home has been designated an ENERGY STAR home in conjunction with Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative.

The owners were convinced that this two-story home built with insulating
concrete forms would provide an extremely quiet home that would also
save them money on their energy bills.

Riva
This 4,200 sq. ft. waterfront contemporary home is three levels, all with
6” concrete
cores. All levels are finished, including the basement and attics.
It has 5 bedrooms with 5 1/2 baths. The main level ceilings are 9’+
and basement ceilings are 8 ft. The house has radiant floor heat throughout
and the extensive ceramic tile enhances the comfort and economical benefits
of owning this home.
The builder, Bill Naegeli, said, “With
rising energy costs it just made sense to build all the way up with
ICF. It was much easier then I anticipated, the added cost was marginal
and the trades had no problem making the transition.” For more information on this project, contact Tom Evans at

St. Leonard
This structure was built as a workshop and temporary domicile until the
