ICFs Catching On In Mississippi
The Mississippi Concrete Industries Association (MCIA) recently completed a successful campaign promoting insulating concrete form (ICF) construction.
The campaign was conducted on a statewide basis, using cable television as the medium. Over 500 30-second commercials were run, with viewers being invited to call an 800 number for more information about ICFs. By all accounts, the campaign has been a great success, with hundreds of leads generated. As a direct result of MCIA's promotion, 10 more ICF houses, one commercial building and one motel are currently under construction in the Jackson/Vicksburg area. In addition, a number of other ICF homes are being built around the state, including two commercial buildings and a ten unit condominium.
Tom Rosser, former Executive Director of MCIA, recently drove by the first
ICF house built in Jackson. The owner happened to be pulling out of
the driveway, so Tom asked him if he liked the house. "Like it - I love
it," he
replied. He had just gotten an $82 utility bill for the 3600 square
foot house. This
is less than half of what would have been expected from a traditional
wood-framed house in the heat of the Mississippi summer.
