Kansas City

This is a beautiful, award winning three story home made from ICFs. The elevated decks, railings and posts are all concrete. A pump truck was needed due to space restrictions getting in and out on a one lane road. The sales representative, Tony Lewandowski, from Geiger Ready-Mix stated: "I have been involved with this project since day one, being able to see that concrete can make such a remarkable home with the fine characteristics is very rewarding." The judges comments included: "This home is very large and has a lot of complexity to the design and pours. The size of this home and the attention to detail and quality are key factors to it success." "An amazing house!"

A wonderful decorative concrete project. Over 970 yards of concrete in the decorative work alone! This is bigger than most commercial projects! The decorative concrete included the stone base around the fountain, the fountain, circle drive, drive, paths, fish tank (finished to look like polished marble). The flatwork is done in a cobblestone random pattern with European fan borders. The fountain had a rock base carved out of plastic concrete and the large fish tank is just amazing concrete work. Judges comments: "The pattern and color in the decorative work are beautiful with the home design." "The color consistency is impressive." "This is a great looking, complex stamping and color job."

Lee's Summit

In the Kansas City suburb of Lee’s Summit, builder Todd Kane of Sanctum LLC, has completed the first phase of what will ultimately be a subdivision of 134 ICF homes. The Mediterranean style duplexes in the “Siena at Longview” development feature ICF exterior walls, concrete roof tiles and interior steel framing. Sanctum has been designated as a Five Star Energy Builder and a Build Green Builder.

At the 2003 Kansas City Home & Garden Show, Sanctum, LLC built a complete ICF home inside the Exhibition Hall, a project that has generated dozens of leads for the company from people interested in building their next home with ICFs. In addition to the "Siena at Longview" development, Sanctum LLC also builds approximately 20 custom ICF homes per year. Todd Kane has found that by hiring his own crews for about 90% of the home construction process, he can control costs to the extent of being equivalent in price to traditional 2x4 wood framing. The only trades that Sanctum subcontracts are for roofing, plumbing, HVAC and drywall.

Lone Jack

The homebuyers came to Secure Structures with plans for a 3,400 sq. ft. home
with walkout finished basement. This Southwest design includes 3 bedrooms,
3 and two and a-half baths and includes a concrete deck and concrete tile roof. This home was built to endure whatever weather might touch down in the Midwest.

Monett

The first home ever built by the newly chartered Monett, Missouri, Habitat for Humanity will feature ICF wall construction – and a helping hand from a U.S. Congressman. On July 31st, 2004, United States Congress Majority Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri and a group of Habitat for Humanity volunteers erected the walls of the home, which is the new residence for Robin and Michael Campbell and their three children.

The home, which sits squarely in the middle of the southwest Missouri area devastated by tornados in May of 2003, meets the “Fortified for Safer Living” standards established by the Institute for Business and Home Safety. It is certified for superior wind, hail, fire, flood and insect resistance, and should qualify the limited income homeowners for substantial insurance discounts as a result.

Congressman Blunt is participating in the project under the “Congress Builds America” program in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity International. The programs’ goal is to recruit as many House members as possible to sponsor Habitat projects in their home districts utilizing modern, safe, affordable and energy efficient building techniques.

ICFA member AMVIC, Inc, provided all of the ICF blocks and labor for the exterior walls. Local ready-mixer Kay Concrete provided discounted concrete, while Dietrich Industries furnished interior steel studs and roof trusses. Additional financial, public relations and logistical support was provided by a variety of other organizations including Habitat for Humanity International, Portland Cement Association, and the Building Systems Council of the National Association of Home Builders.

ICF construction is not making it’s first appearance in southwest Missouri – new fire stations featuring ICF construction have been built in nearby Pierce City and Battlefield. The original fire stations in both towns were completely destroyed in the May, 2003 tornado outbreak. Additional Habitat for Humanity and private homes have also been constructed in the area.

For more information about the Monett Habitat for Humanity event on July 31st, contact Bob Broyles of AMVIC, Inc. at (417) 581-0771.
