Both builder and concrete contractor raised the quality of estate home
construction by using the historically proven material of reinforced concrete from floor to ceiling – and decks – in these homes. The home is the development’s sales center and model and was the recipient of the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County’s 2003 Gold MAME Award.

Jon Rufty of Rufty Homes said,“This method of steel-reinforced concrete construction will meet or exceed anyone’s definition of superior construction. It’s durable, low maintenance, energy efficient, quiet, comfortable, sturdy and long
lasting. That’s why we’ve incorporated it into our operations after 14 years in the residential home building business.”

Greensboro

There is a new innovative home in High Point. Not just another new home, but a concrete masonry home benefiting the homeowner with a hurricane and fire resistant, green and energy efficient home. The builder, Tom Duke of High Point, has constructed the 2,000 plus square foot residence located at 3215 Quail Run Drive, in the Quail Run (Farm Lot #5) subdivision of High Point. Duke, a contractor for over 13 years, decided to build the speculative home for the upcoming High Point Parade of Homes. He changed the construction process by redesigning the conventional wood frame structure and instead employing the concrete masonry system. The masonry utilizes standard and custom concrete block units produced locally in Greensboro. Most of the concrete block plants in the Carolinas produce these units on a daily basis.

The concrete block system is a time tested system. Ninety percent of the homes constructed in Florida use the same system employed by Tom Duke. He has been assisted in the construction of the Parade Home by concrete block manufacturer RMC Carolina Materials, headquarted in Colfax, NC.

CCMA has been mounting a campaign to educate the Carolina Home Builders to use concrete masonry systems. Many homes were built using concrete block throughout the 50's and early 60's, but were basic home styles of the time and were not designed with the aesthetic values employed in today’s designs. Additionally, there has been a perception by the public that a block home must be ugly, damp and not cost effective. When the public views the completed home, they will see a stone-like quality exterior and the home will be finished much like the average home today.

CCMA at (336) 852-2074 or Tom Duke at (336) 883-8322 or (336) 362-4938.
