The Portland Cement Association, in conjunction with Dow Chemical Company, is spearheading the construction of a precast concrete home, which will be erected in the parking lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center and be on display for both the International Builders Show and the World of Concrete.
The exterior walls of the Count on Concrete home will be built utilizing the Dow T-Mass precast building system. The 1,237 square foot house will utilize the current floor plan built by the Las Vegas Habitat for Humanity chapter - a 3 bedroom, 2 bath ranch with a single car garage.
The pre-cast panels will be built offsite and transported to the Convention Center site four days prior to the Builders Show. At the conclusion of the World of Concrete, the home is to be dismantled and relocated on a lot owned by Habitat for Humanity, to ultimately become a new home for a Las Vegas area Habitat family.
The primary purpose of the show home project is to educate show attendees, media outlets and the general public about the benefits of exterior concrete wall construction for residential homebuilding. A secondary purpose is to spotlight PCA’s “Team Concrete” initiative, which encourages the cement & concrete industries to work with their local communities to build energy-efficient, high-quality concrete homes for the affordable housing sector.
This will be the 10th consecutive year that PCA has sponsored a concrete show home at the International Builders Show. The home will be located in the Silver Lot of the Las Vegas Convention Center, just outside the North Hall. In addition to the Count on Concrete home, PCA has once again coordinated the NAHB Concrete Pavilion for 2003. The Pavilion will be located in the North Hall.
