The New American Home 2004 Steals the Show

Many of the more than 104,000 people who attended the 2004 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas got a first-hand look at a modern concrete marvel—The New American Home. An estimated 5,000 show attendees visited the home during the tours, which quickly sold out each day during the Show. Dozens of newspaper and magazine editors from across North America had their opportunity to explore the home during a private press party.

R: The New American Home featured a concrete basement and showcased the benefits of lower-level living.

For the first time since 1994, and with assistance from the Portland Cement Association and numerous industry partners, concrete provides the vast majority of the structural elements for The New American Home, the official Show Home of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Insulating concrete forms (ICFs) make up the high performance envelope for the below- and above-grade walls. Precast hollow-core concrete planks provide the flooring structure for the home’s interior. Concrete Pavers are utilized for the pool deck, while an exposed aggregate finish is employed for the boat dock area at the rear of the home. All of the concrete flatwork areas make extensive use of pattern-stamped and stained decorative concrete, as well as white cement in the pool area. Exterior cladding and landscaping on The New American Home feature decorative concrete masonry. Several of the interior walls utilize a Portland cement-based textured limestone finish, while bathrooms in two of the suites contain concrete countertops.

The view from the master bedroom looks out to the deck featuring floating concrete pavers, concrete swimming pool, reflecting pool, decorative concrete masonry exterior, exposed aggregate decking and ICF landscaping walls.

Constructed by Merlin Contracting, LLC, the $1.9 million, 5,180-square-foot New American Home 2004 is in the luxury community of The Lakes at West Sahara, about 15 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. The home was available for public tours on weekends through February 15, with a $10 cover charge to benefit Boys Hope/Girls Hope of Nevada.

Bus tours to The New American Home were continuous during show hours, with approximately 5,000 attendees viewing the home.
