As a Local Sponsoring Group, the Portland Cement Association is available to train you or your personnel and administer a wide variety of ACI Certification Programs. Our qualified and experienced instructors will teach the technical information you need and administer the written and performance evaluations for certifying concrete testing technicians, laboratory technicians and inspectors.

The following is a list of the certification programs available:

  • Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I

  • Concrete Strength Testing Technician

  • Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Grade I

  • Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician Grade II

  • Field Aggregate Testing Technician

  • Laboratory Aggregate Testing Technician

  • Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector

  • Concrete Construction Special Instructor

PCA has trained and administered both the written and performance evaluations to literally hundreds of examination candidates.

By expanding the knowledge of those that work with concrete on a daily basis, you can impact the overall performance of the concrete you produce. These certification programs are one of the best ways to ensure an efficient and effective quality control program.

ACI Field Testing Technician Certification Open Enrollment

Slump testPCA will hold an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I Certification examination at our Skokie, IL facilities on September 21, 2007. Our qualified and experienced instructors will administer the written and performance evaluations for certifying concrete testing technicians.

The program requires a working knowledge of the following ASTM Standards:

C 1064 - Temperature of Freshly Mixed Portland-Cement Concrete
C 172 - Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete
C 143 - Slump of Hydraulic Cement Concrete
C 138 - Unit Weight, Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete
C 231 - Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Pressure Method
C 173 - Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Volumetric Method
C 31 - Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field

ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:

  1. A passing grade on the ACI written examination

  2. Successful completion of the ACI performance examination

The one-hour written examination is "closed book" and consists of 55 multiple choice questions. There are five (5) to ten (10) questions on each of the ASTM Standards. To pass the written examination, both of the following conditions must be met: (a) at least 60% correct for each of the required standards; and (b) a minimum score of 70% overall.

The performance examination is also "closed book" and requires actual demonstration of six of the required ASTM Standards plus a verbal description of Sampling, ASTM C 172. The examinee is judged on his/her ability to correctly perform or describe all of the required procedures for each standard.

Recertification is necessary every five (5) years, and requires successful completion of both the written and performance examinations.
