Technical Conference Boasts Record Attendance
This
year's 49th annual IEEE-IAS/PCA Cement Industry Technical Conference
in Charleston, S.C., broke yet another attendance record. A total
of 1,180 participants representing 22 countries and 400 separate
companies registered for the event with 199 spouses also participating.
First time-attendee participation included 450 registrants.
The conference boasted a wide variety of tutorials and technical
presentations plus tours of Giant Cement's Harleyville plant and
Holcim's Holly Hill plant. Tutorials presented at the conference
included: Networks in a Modern Cement Plant, Relay Coordination
for Cement Plants, Mechanical Material Handling for the
US Cement Industry: Application, Design and Maintenance, and
A Tale of Two Coolers.
The conference's first place technical paper was awarded to Brian
Keefe and Robert Shenk (both of FLSmidth, Inc.) for their paper,
The Best Total Value for Pyro Technology. Twenty seven
separate technical papers representing state-of-the articles on
cement manufacturing in the areas of general practices, automation,
power generation, distribution and related products, drive and related
products, and environmental, maintenance, and safety were presented
at the conference. These papers are compiled as the conference proceedings
in a fully searchable CD-ROM. In addition to the technical conference,
PCA members attended the spring MTC meetings and annual Safety Awards
Luncheon.
MTC members took advantage of presentations on:
- Replacement and Development and Application of Hybrid ESP/Baghouses
in the Cement Industry – A Case Study
- CO2 Emissions and AB 32 Issues
- Use of Waste Latex Paint in Cement Manufacturing
- THC Issues in the Cement Industry
MTC members received complimentary copies of PCA's newest publication,
Pulverized Solid Fuel Use in the Cement Industry. The conference
proceedings (CD072) and
Pulverized Solid Fuel Use in the Cement Industry (EB123)
are both available for purchase through PCA's bookstore.
