Pervious concrete is recognized by the U.S. EPA as a best practice for stormwater management. At the 2007 American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention and Design Exposition, the Portland Cement Association will have a full pervious concrete display demonstrating how this innovative technology filters stormwater, while providing a solid base for sidewalks and roadways. |
PCA recently launched “Concrete Thinking” a bi-monthly, e-newsletter. Designed as a resource for architects, engineers, and members of the building industry interested in sustainable development, the free e-newsletter provides the latest information about the environmental benefits of building with cement-based products Visit the PCA booth (10084) to take a tour of www.ConcreteThinker.com, PCA's unique clearinghouse of tools and information that helps turn green

| The Benefits of Concrete | Case Studies |
| Sustainable development challenges the design and construction industry to create buildings that acknowledge the life cycle of a building. Architects, engineers, and builders are choosing concrete for its durability, recycled ingredients, and energy efficiency. When compared with other building materials, concrete is a responsible choice for sustainable development. Pervious concrete has many environmental benefits. |

| Sustainable Manufacturing in the Cement Industry | |
The U.S. cement industry is dedicated to manufacturing a superior product while continuously challenging manufacturing policies and procedures to improve energy efficiency and minimize emissions. To ensure that the industry’s commitment results in consistent, tangible actions, PCA has developed the Cement Manufacturing Sustainability Program. PCA releases an annual Report on Sustainable Manufacturing that tracks the industry’s progress in improving the manufacturing process and updates the industry’s performance with respect to limiting its footprint. |
Cement plants throughout the United States are using new and innovative solutions that not only reduce their environmental impact, but also extend sustainable practices into their surrounding communities. Recently the Portland Cement Association (PCA) and Cement Americas magazine recognized several cement plants across the United States in the Annual Cement Industry Environment & Energy (E&E) Awards, a program that was begun six years ago to recognize the sustainable contributions of cement plants. Judges for the awards include representatives from the World Resources Institute, the U.S. EPA, and the World Wildlife Fund. Cement Industry Honors Leaders in Environmental Improvement
