SKOKIE, Ill.— A thorough understanding of code provisions
is vital to ensuring quality construction. To assist engineers,
architects, contractors, and others gain a better understanding
of code requirements Portland Cement Association has combined
PCA Notes on ACI 318-05 Building Code Requirements for
Structural Concrete with Design Applications and the
ACI 318-05 Building Code on one searchable CD.
ACI 318-05 and PCA Notes on CD links electronically
explanations from Notes to the corresponding Code sections
to help designers apply the provisions. Users can use Adobe
Acrobat to search, find, and print the information they need.
The CD’s discussions on codes applicable to strut-and-tie
models, alternative provisions for reinforced and prestressed
concrete flexural and compression members, alternative load
and strength-reduction factors, and anchorage to concrete
begin with what code changes have taken place, followed by
numerical examples that allow design professionals to better
understand and apply the code provisions.
