Soil Remediation Workshop and Tour Planned

 


SKOKIE, Ill.— The Portland Cement Association and the Southeast Cement Council will sponsor a solidification/stabilization treatment seminar and site tour April 22 in St. Simons Island, Ga.

Selected for 23% of the EPA Superfund source control projects, solidification/stabilization (S/S) involves mixing portland cement as a binding reagent into the contaminated environmental media or waste. The technology protects human health and the environment by immobilizing hazardous constituents within the treated material.
 
The seminar will present information on the principles of solidification/stabilization (S/S) treatment technology, and its design and application for remediation of contaminated property.

Attendees will tour the Brunswick Wood Superfund Site in Brunswick, Ga., where more than 60,000 cubic yards (46,000 cubic meters) of wood preservative-impacted soil and sediment will be treated exsitu.

This workshop is ideal for consulting environmental professionals, remediation contractors, federal, state, and municipal regulators, academics, site owners, and other professionals who are interested in learning about the use of S/S treatment as a remediation method for contaminated properties including brownfields.  Continuing Education Unit (CEU) and Professional Development Hour (PDH) credits are available.
