The Portland Cement Association (PCA) is once again a proud sponsor of
The New American Home®, the official showcase house of the annual
International Builders' Show. PCA and the Florida Concrete and Products
Association played a major role in the home, debuting January 13-16, 2005,
in Orlando, Fla., coordinating product donations and providing technical
expertise. PCA and FCPA join the National Council of the Housing Industry,
a division of the National Association of Home Builders, in sponsoring
TNAH.
Builder Kim Goehring of Goehring and Morgan Construction, Inc., boasts
that TNAH is the “safest home in Orlando.” That just might
be true, as the 9,036-sq-ft home weathered three hurricanes in the fall
and during construction with barely a hitch. Concrete masonry framing
is just one safety component of the home that came into play during the
hurricanes. For more information on the how TNAH resisted Florida’s
hurricanes visit www.tnah.com.
TNAH’s safety isn’t limited to treacherous wind protection.
Plop this home into a forested region and the home could ward off the
deadliest of wildfires. Concrete masonry, a portland cement stucco finish,
and concrete roof tiles provide the protection.
The home’s exterior leans heavily on concrete for its artistic side.
Decorative concrete pavers adorn the centrally focused courtyard, and
concrete masonry retaining walls help fulfill the Mediterranean architectural
theme.
