Industry Standouts Recognized |
| |
Portland Cement Association awarded
eight industry professionals with Promotion Progress Awards
at its annual spring committee meeting, March 2, 2004, in Chicago.
Winners of the award were selected among 20 nominees of PCA
member company personnel for outstanding efforts in promoting
cement and concrete products.
Two of the winners, one from Canada and one from the U.S.,
received the newly created sustainable development award.

Robert Bates, Lafarge
North America Inc., for significantly expanding contacts
and program activity in NECSA’s College and University
Program.

Tom Chizmadia, Holcim
(US) Inc., (Sustainable Development award winner, U.S.),
for avidly serving as a visionary proponent of sustainability
for both Holcim and the cement industry, in the United
States and globally.

Don Clem, CEMEX,
for actively promoting residential concrete construction
and pavement projects and successfully supporting favorable
legislation in the Midwest.

Frank LoRe, Jr., Lafarge
North American Inc., for successfully converting
several above-grade construction projects in New York
City to ICF.

Shawn McMillan, Lehigh
Inland Cement Ltd. (Sustainable Development award winner,
Canada), for expanding the use of concrete in the
construction of farm structures to promote sustainable
development in agricultural communities in western Canada.

James L. Nicholos, Lafarge
North America Inc., for exceptional leadership in
promoting increased consumption of cements for masonry
and for continuing contributions to code and standard
development.

Raymond R. Pisaneschi,
Lehigh Cement Company, for tirelessly seeking
new markets, mentoring the practitioners, and promoting
the products that utilize white cement, both domestically
and abroad.

Clayton Willis, Essroc
Cement Corporation, for initiating a mason training
program in West Virginia and committing extensive personal
time and energy to make it succeed.
“The importance of promotion in our
industry cannot be understated,” said Daniel M Harrington,
PCA chairman. “All of the nominees should be applauded
for their exceptional commitment.”
The 2004 Promotion Progress Awards are co-sponsored
