Shaw Named Senior Vice President of Government Affairs

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Portland Cement Association named The Honorable John Spitaleri Shaw senior vice president of government affairs. He will head the association’s Washington office and represent PCA and its members before Congress, the Administration, and the White House. Shaw joined PCA in April as the vice president for legislative affairs.

Shaw brings a strong record of accomplishments to PCA with a wealth of experience in politics and environmental affairs roles with government agencies and as an advisor to and within the private sector. Most recently, he served as assistant secretary for environment, safety, and health at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

While assistant secretary, Shaw was commended for his efforts in reestablishing a positive relationship between the department and the DOE worker community. He spearheaded activities that expanded the Former Worker Medical Screening Program and managed a seamless and effective transfer of the worker compensation program to the Department of Labor. Immediately prior to his appointment as assistant secretary, he served as the department’s deputy chief of staff and White House liaison.

Shaw has more than a decade of legal, management and political experience in the public and private sectors. He began his career in 1995 as an attorney with Patton Boggs, LLP where he focused on legislative and regulatory strategy. In 1997, he accepted a position with Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) as a majority counsel, special investigation, for the U.S Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, during the investigation into alleged illegal and improper campaign finance activity. During the 2000 presidential campaign, Shaw served as an aide to Vice President Cheney and Mrs. Cheney and performed other duties during the campaign and transition.

Shaw received his Bachelor of Science degree from Syracuse University and his J.D. from Catholic University Law School in Washington, D.C.
