Chairman Jim Repman (California Portland Cement) and PCA's Mark
Justman present a 2005 Promotion Progress Award to Barrett Reese
(center). |
Barret
thinks big, in true Texas style. He served as the Chairman of the
Texas Aggregates and Concrete Association (TACA) Industry Promotion
and Marketing Committee for six years and also worked diligently to
coordinate TACA promotion activities with the Cement Council of Texas
(CCT). Through his efforts, TACA established seven regional promotion
sub-committees to promote the markets that were advantageous to each
area. Barrett assists the CCT and others groups in evaluating the
areas where a specific promotion target can be identified and assessed.
In support of the CCT cement stabilization and flexible pavement recycling
effort, he worked with a local contractor to develop a cement slurry
system through which the contractor could supply slurried cement to
the construction contractor. In addition, he is involved with the
new Governor's Residential Commission, speaking on behalf of all aspects
of concrete residential construction while working to improve and
enforce building codes. In related activity, he promotes colored and
stamped concrete with architects and engineers.
Barrett’s dedicated efforts have produced
concrete demand in all aspects of construction. His work with the
Governor's Residential Commission will result in higher quality
standards for home construction, as well as increased acceptance
for ICF, block, tilt-wall, and cast-in-place concrete. Added value
concrete through colors and patterns will help architects use the
most attractive concrete presentations. His work with the cement
slurry contactor and cities and counties will increase the use of
cement by an estimated 50,000 tons per year in the Dallas/Fort Worth
area alone.
