RCC
Makes Two More Georgia Dams Safer
Building on the success of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) overtopping
protection at Yellow River Watershed Dams No.
14 and No. 17, the Natural
Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Gwinnett County, Georgia
recently completed upgrades to two more embankment dams. Yellow
River Watershed Dams No. 15 and No. 16, are within 3 miles (5.4

alternative to stabilizing and raising the existing dam. |
 |
Loch Raven Dam—Maryland
Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) was
the material of choice to buttress the dam and to increase the
spillway capacity in order to remedy the flood-risk of this
aging gravity dam. |

Yellow River
Watershed Dam No. 17—Georgia
A rapidly growing metropolitan county depends on RCC to
rehabilitate an aging dam and restore the
focal point of a prominent park. |

into compliance with modern safety standards. |
