Seminar Objective:
Information will be presented on the current trends in the design
and construction of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) for water resource
applications. Design of RCC mixtures, specifications, and quality
control procedures will be covered. Case studies will be presented
on small to medium size RCC gravity dams and RCC overtopping spillways.
Speakers
will discuss completed projects and projects currently under construction,
including RCC gravity dams and overtopping spillways. PCA has developed
several engineering design manuals to assist engineers in the design
of these types of RCC structures. Principal authors of these bulletins
will discuss designing gravity dams, spillways, and overtopping
protection.
A field trip has been organized to nearby RCC project sites. These
will include at least one RCC gravity dam and one RCC emergency
spillway/overtopping protection of earth embankment. Attendees will
be able to observe completed projects and, depending on construction
schedule at two project sites tentatively scheduled for construction,
the attendees may also observe RCC placement and on-site RCC mixing
plants.

Who Should Attend
Consulting engineers, contractors, testing laboratories,
dam safety regulators, government agencies, dam owners, and others
who are interested in learning more about the recent applications
and advances in the design and construction with RCC.
Faculty
Instructors are experienced in the latest design and
construction principles and methods for RCC technology. They are
active in their field of expertise and have volunteered their time
to share their knowledge and experiences.
Continuing Education Units
The continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally
recognized measure of accomplishment in continuing education. The
Portland Cement Association will provide a certificate by mail for
1.2 CEU’s to each seminar attendee.
Course Materials
Each registrant will receive the PCA design manuals
for spillways and small gravity dams. These manuals provide designers
and contractors the latest information for using RCC for overtopping
spillways and gravity dams for water supply and flood control.
