Cement Industry Honors Plant Safety

PCA Announces 2018 Chairman’s Safety Performance Award Winners

April 24, 2018 – WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Portland Cement Association (PCA) announced the winners of the Chairman’s Safety Performance Awards, which recognize outstanding safety performance in the manufacturing of portland cement, the core ingredient used in all forms of concrete. Presented at the 2018 Cement and Concrete Fly-In event, the nine winners were selected from 100 cement facilities across the U.S. found to be the highest performers in safety.

“The cement facilities recognized today have achieved stellar safety results,” said Allen Hamblen, PCA Chairman and President and CEO of CalPortland. “Safety is a primary focus for the cement industry—the safety of our plants and the people who work in them. We applaud this year’s winners for their singular dedication.”

The 2018 PCA Chairman’s Safety Performance Award winners are:

Category: Less than 227,000 hours

GCC of America, Inc. — Odessa, Texas

Buzzi Unicem USA Inc. — Chattanooga, Tenn.

Drake Cement Company — Paulden, Ariz.

 

Category: 227,001-289,000 hours

CalPortland — Rillito, Ariz.

CEMEX USA — Clinchfield, Ga.

Buzzi Unicem USA Inc. — San Antonio, Texas

 

Category: 289,001-668,000 hours

Lehigh Hanson Inc. — Union Bridge, Md.

Ash Grove Cement Company — Foreman, Ark.

LafargeHolcim US — Alpena, Mich.
