Ash Grove Cement Company Manager Recognized by Portland Cement Association

SKOKIE, Ill. — Portland Cement Association (PCA) named Scott Nielson the runner-up of a 2015 John P. Gleason Jr., Leadership Award.

Presented at PCA’s annual fall committee meeting, the awards honor employees of member companies who have exhibited industry leadership by taking the Association in new directions. Awards are presented in each of PCA’s three categories of key strategic initiatives: Business Continuity, Market Development as well as Young Leaders.

Nielson, runner-up in the Young Leaders category, is recognized for exceptional leadership qualities and high potential in non-executive employees of Member companies. Leadership factors include ability to achieve exceptional results through others, strong commitment to the cement industry, and ability to engage and collaborate with people and organizations outside the employee's own company.

Mr. Nielson, corporate environmental manager at Ash Grove Cement Company, is honored an active volunteer who serves as co-chairman on PCA’s Energy and Environment Technology Subcommittee. Scott has direct responsibility for environmental compliance at Ash Grove Cement Company’s Midwestern cement and quarry operations.

The award is named after John P. “Jay” Gleason, Jr., who served as PCA president from 1986 until his retirement in 2007. Gleason was known for his consensus building among both members and allies and for his strong leadership skills.
