MIT Research Outreach Materials Available

The Think Harder. Concrete web site now includes support materials addressing research reports released by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Concrete Sustainability Hub.

The one-page fact sheets and talking points summarize findings from MIT's work on the life-cycle assessment (LCA) of pavements, LCA of buildings, and life-cycle cost analysis of pavements. Also available are general information about The Hub and links to the complete reports.

Concrete Roads Could Save States Billions of Infrastructure Dollars

A recent PCA report shows that some states’ department of transportation procurement practices hinder “free market” dynamics economics. These practices could be costing states and taxpayers billions of dollars in unnecessary paving initiatives.

The report, “Paving, The New Realities,” details the world economic growth dynamics that have resulted in the elimination of asphalt’s paving cost advantage, both on initial bid and life-cycle costs.

PCA Expands Its Educational Offerings to the Internet

A leader in concrete and cement education for nearly a century, PCA is expanding its educational offerings with a online learning center.

The first course, Cement and Its Impact on Concrete Performance, is a six-part series on concrete and cement technology that explains cement's role in sustainability, cement types and applications, and how cement affects the performance of the final product, concrete.

Each hour-long module focuses on professional development while addressing relevant topics and issues for today's construction professional. The course is self-paced and can be taken without travel and time commitments of conventional classes.
