Dr. Adam Knaack is a principal and project leader with Schaefer, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2007, he was selected as a recipient of a J. P. Gleason Fellowship. Under the direction of Gino Kurama at the University of Notre Dame, his project was “Stress-Strain Properties of Concrete at Elevated Temperatures,” where he studied how concrete behaves when exposed to elevated temperatures using data from previous research to expand the understanding of concrete’s compressive stress-strain behavior. As part of his Ph.D. research, Dr. Knaack studied the behavior of recycled concrete aggregates as replacement for natural aggregates in new concrete construction.
Dr. Knaack has been at Schaefer since 2013, where he works as a structural consulting engineer on projects across all markets with an emphasis on structural steel and concrete buildings.
He continues to support the advancement of guidance for structural design of concrete construction through his participation as a voting member of several ACI committees on slabs, structural deflection, and insulating concrete forms.
