Prevention of employee injuries during kiln burn pipe removal
Cement plant employees built a custom cradle to place onto a forklift when extracting the kiln burn pipe for maintenance. Before the cradle was constructed, employees used a forklift with chains lashed around the burn pipe and forks to maneuver the burn pipe from the kiln. The job was dangerous.
The cradle was constructed using small scrap pieces of channel steel and angle iron. Placing the burn pipe onto the cradle makes extracting and transporting the device safer because the pipe is stationary during transport, instead of moving about the forks due to the uneven balance.
