Marina
City
Chicago, Illinois
Marina City, the landmark structure
located along the Chicago River in downtown Chicago, will celebrate
its 45th birthday in 2009. Marina City is a mixed-use building
complex highlighted by twin, corncob-shaped residential towers
constructed of exposed reinforced concrete. When completed in
1964, the twin towers were the both the tallest residential
buildings and the tallest reinforced concrete structures in
the world. |

Trump
International Hotel and Tower
Chicago, Illinois
Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) Chicago's
92-story Trump Tower will be the tallest concrete building in
the United States, and the tallest building built in North America
since the completion of Sears Tower in 1974. Reaching a height
of 1134 ft. (1362 ft. including the spire) above grade, the
2.6 million-square foot structure includes condominium, service
apartments, health club, parking, and retail functions. Reinforced
concrete was selected as the material of choice based on its
high stiffness, mass, damping, and superb acoustical properties.

Astor
Place Tower
New York, NY
This $50-million “rotational, asymmetrical structure”
includes mixed-use commercial space and a residential condominium
tower. The complex contains 39 luxury residential loft units,
13,000 square feet of retail space, a below-grade parking garage
for residents’ cars, and penthouse gallery space for Cooper
Union, the owner of the site. A reinforced concrete flat plate
system with shear walls was chosen for Astor Place, as it provides
the most economical structural system for the project’s
intricate architectural and programmatic layout. |

The
Mosaic
New York, NY
FXFowle Architects' Dan Kaplan is driven by the thrill
of urban life, and his latest project, the Mosaic on the west
side of Manhattan, reclaims a former industrial area for a 677,000-square-feet
complex combining residential, retail, and cultural space. |

Espirito
Santo Plaza
Miami, Florida
The Esprito Santo Bank Headquarters is a 483-foot-tall, 37-story
tower. The gross area is approximately 755,000 square feet with
office floors on levels 3 to 15, hotel floors 16 to 22, and
residential floors 25 to 35. Concrete was selected as the material
of choice for this project because of the economical advantage
of concrete construction and earlier occupancy.

The
Ritz-Carlton Luxury Condominium and Hotel
New York, New York
The Ritz-Carlton Luxury Condominiums and Four Star Hotel
is a 40-story mixed-use building situated at the southern
most tip of Manhattan. The property has achieved a unique
distinction in showcasing world-class architecture at the
gateway to Manhattan. The two-day per floor construction cycle
perfected in New York allowed the building to be constructed
rapidly.

Westin
Diplomat Resort and Spa
Hollywood, Florida
This mixed-use complex consist of five main buildings, surrounded
by additional site structures, creating a beachfront resort.
It is anchored by a 41-story Westin Hotel, with a cutout in
the middle acting as a "window" to the Atlantic Ocean.
Concrete provided the much needed flexibility to accomodate
the varied layouts. |

Park at Harbor View
Long Beach, California
The $120 million Park at Harbor View project which overlooks
historical buildings and landmarks is a mixed-use development
that provides much needed housing in the urban setting of Long
Beach. Concrete structures with post-tensioned decks are proven
to provide a superior structural solution for mid-rise buildings
in Southern California. |

Water’s
Edge at Playa Vista
Los Angeles, California
Building 2 of the Water’s Edge at Playa Vista project
is four stories tall, offering 45,000 square feet of space per
floor. They used concrete to form both
the structure and much of the exterior, creating a building
that offers energy efficiency, flexible spaces, and a naturally
beautiful aesthetic to tenants. |
