New State and Market Trend Report Available for Purchase

PCA recently released the 2015 State & Market Trend Report. This new report contains both apparent use of portland cement by state and real construction put-in-place by state extending back to 1995.

Available in Excel, the State & Market Trend Report consists of 46 categories of cement consumption per state and 23 categories of construction spending data per state. The report’s 20-year time horizon allows for analysis of the multiple economic cycles captured.

The report contains both construction dollars and cement volumes which allows for long-term trend analysis of spending, consumption, and intensities. Data prior to 2003 has been brought into alignment with current methodologies allowing for seamless trend evaluation. These incorporated enhancements further develop the scope with which the cement and construction sectors can be analyzed.

Codes and Standards

PCA Codes and Standards Return to NFPA

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is one of the largest code development organizations in the United States and worldwide. Virtually every building, process, service, design, and installation in society today is affected by NFPA documents.

The wood industry has maintained a presence at NFPA with multiple initiatives favoring the expansion of acceptable applications of wood. Nine-story cross laminated timber (CLT) buildings are being proposed in this venue as well as increased allowable use of fire retardant treated wood. Many other subtle proposals have been submitted which collectively diminish and erode cement market share.

PCA codes and standards participated at the NFPA technical meetings in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 27-30, 2015. During this session, NFPA committees reviewed all proposals received from the public input period for NFPA 101 – Life Safety Code and NFPA 5000 – Building Construction Code. PCA has applied to serve on the NFPA committees and task groups which discuss these proposals, as it did prior to 2011, to provide technical justification against wood and other competing industries.

Proposals which make it through committee with a favorable vote will go on to the public comment period and then back to committee for edits and final membership vote. The conclusion of the NFPA 101 and 5000 technical meetings will be August 24-29 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Click here for full schedule. A report of the proposals and PCA positions for use in making public comments will be generated and posted on the PCA website after the August meetings.
