Building Codes

Stop Tall Wood

Safe, strong and resilient communities are made possible by building codes that require durable, resilient and non-combustible materials like concrete.

Concrete does not ROT or BURN.

Building construction in the U.S. is heavily influenced by state and local building codes, which are typically based off of the International Building Code (IBC). The IBC are model building codes developed by the International Code Council (ICC) which although not law, are viewed as minimum design and construction requirements to assure life safety, property protection, general welfare of the public, and safety to firefighters and emergency responders.
