Bridges are a critical part of the nation’s infrastructure. Because they are an important ingredient in the United States’ logistical system, their condition can impact overall economic growth. There are more than 610,000 bridges in the United States, small and large, representing 369 million square meters in area. Most bridges are concrete. Concrete’s principal competitor is steel bridges. The market share of annual cement consumption has grown from 52% in 2000 to 57% in 2015. This report focuses on the United States’ bridge market.
